SIPPED AND SAVORED

South of the Border

All of the ingredients for this libation come from our country’s neighbors to the south, Mexico.

I wanted to share a cocktail for those who endured dry January. I cannot claim to be one of them this year, as I have had a few too many things going on to have the will power, but this one is made with my favorite liquor. Mezcal might not be what I drink most often, but defintiely is my favorite and should be in everyone’s cabinet. Quick thanks to my friend Chris who avidly shares my enjoyment for Mezcal.

Ingredients :

3oz Mezcal

2oz lime juice (fresh = about 1.5 limes)

.50oz Agave nectar

5 slices cucumber (thick, about 1cm)

4 slices of jalepeno (also about 1cm thick)

ice

Directions :

Place the cucumber and jalepeno slices in a shaker and muddle it to release all the juices. I mean really pulverize it, take out all your frustrations on it. Add the rest of the ingredients, enough ice and shake vigourously for a few minutes. Fill a cocktail glass half way with ice, then strain the cocktail shaker over the ice, garnish and serve.
